#0 - Rebuilding, Together: Why I’m Offering Free VFX Mentorship and Support for VFX Artists
Have you ever felt like you’re just barely holding on?
I know that feeling. Not too long ago, I found myself in a similar place. Within one year, I experienced multiple studio closures that led to layoffs.
The gaming industry, a world that has brought so much joy and inspiration to millions, is going through a challenging time. Many of us have been hit hard, whether directly or through watching friends and colleagues lose jobs, studios close their doors, or seeing the uncertainty that has clouded the future of so many talented artists and developers.
But through these dark times, I’ve learned something vital: we don’t have to face this alone. We have always been a community - one that lifts each other up, that shares knowledge and support. And it is this community spirit that inspired me to take action.
So, why offer free mentorship? Why offer free knowledge?
Let me share a thought with you. When I first started in VFX, there were no shortcuts. The road was long, filled with mistakes and frustrations, but also with incredible moments of growth. There were times I felt completely lost, unsure of my next step, or how to get better.
If I could go back in time to my struggling younger self and guide him, point him in the right direction, and if I could share just a fraction of the knowledge I’ve gathered over the years with him - it would have saved young Veer years of trial and error.
That’s why I want to give back - to you. To the artists who are struggling to break in, to the ones who are rebuilding after a layoff, and to those who feel like they’re at a crossroads in their career. Together, we will rise again.
A Free VFX Mentorship Program: Offering Hope in Uncertain Times
I know how tough it can be when you’ve just lost your job, or if you’re trying to break into the VFX industry and don’t know where to start. The fear of rejection, the pressure to build a standout portfolio, and the need to master technical skills while also staying creative - it can feel overwhelming.
That’s why I’m offering free mentorship for those feeling lost or unsure about their next steps in VFX. Through portfolio reviews, interview prep, and personalized feedback, I want to help you build your confidence and sharpen the skills that will make you stand out in the competitive world of VFX.
But I want you to think about something: How would it feel to have someone who’s overcome the exact same situation - on your side? Giving you constructive criticism, offering advice, and simply believing in your potential?
The Power of Knowledge Sharing: Learning from Experience
As an artist, the technical and creative hurdles we face can feel daunting. And, truth be told, many of the lessons I’ve learned in my career didn’t come from formal education - they came from experience. From working on award winning titles on multiple platforms, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible teams and learning from the best of the best. But those lessons weren’t always easy to come by.
That’s why I’m launching the Daily LinkedIn VFX Knowledge Share. Through this series of posts, I want to share lessons and insights that will help you level up your VFX journey. If I had something like that when I was starting out, it would have made a world of difference. And now, I want to be that person for you.
From technical tips to creative advice, I’ll be diving into the aspects of VFX that shaped my approach and helped me grow as an artist. But it’s not just about me sharing; I want to hear your stories, your struggles, and your successes. What have you learned? What do you need help with?
The gaming industry may feel fractured right now, but knowledge is one of the few things that can unite us, and I want to be a part of that collective growth.
A Free Weekly VFX Newsletter: Keeping the Fire Alive
Every Friday, I’ll be sending out a newsletter with lessons, practical advice on VFX techniques, and insights into the industry. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been in the industry for years, there will always be something new to learn, something that will help you push forward in your journey.
But here’s the real question: When things feel uncertain, what’s your motivation to keep going? For me, it’s the knowledge that we are stronger together. It’s the fire that keeps burning inside all of us - the desire to create, to innovate, and to be part of something larger than ourselves.
I want my newsletter to fuel that fire. So, let’s rebuild the VFX community, one newsletter at a time.
A Personal Commitment to the Future of VFX
I’m not just offering my mentorship and knowledge - I’m offering a partnership. A promise, that no matter how dark the times may seem, we can rise together.
But here’s where I need your help: Are you ready to take that first step? Are you willing to put in the work and build something greater than yourself?
If the answer is yes, then let’s make 2025 the year we rise from the ashes. Together.
